Brief Description Marine Weather Statement
Detailed Description CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE COASTAL WATERS THIS EVENING THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. Mariners should be prepared for abrupt visibility changes down to one nautical mile or less. Reduce speeds and be on the lookout for exposed rocks and other vessels, including large ships in the shipping lanes. Use radar or GPS navigation if available, and consider remaining in harbor if such equipment is unavailable.. A weather disturbance will move northward across the region late this afternoon and evening and will interact with an influx of monsoonal moisture to create the possibility for isolated to scattered thunderstorms across portions of the Southern California coastal waters this evening through Friday. Any thunderstorms would be capable of producing dangerous cloud-to-surface lightning, gusty winds locally to gale-force, and locally brief heavy rain. Mariners are encouraged to closely monitor the situation and consider making alternative plans to avoid thunderstorm activity.
