Brief Description Marine Weather Statement
Detailed Description Gusty northeast winds and choppy seas will develop over the coastal waters southeast of Point Conception early Wednesday morning then continue into Thursday morning Northeast winds of 20 to 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt and short period wind waves up to 5 feet will affect nearshore areas from Ventura to Santa Monica, and out past Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands. Northeast winds of 15 to 25 kt with wind waves of 2 to 4 feet have the potential to move through the San Pedro Channel and impact most of the unprotected east side of Catalina Island, including Avalon and Two Harbors. The strong winds will peak Wednesday morning and again Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Strong offshore winds will create choppy, cross seas due to the northwest swell combined with northeasterly wind waves. These conditions have a history of vessel damage and loss of life. Mariners should avoid these areas, or remain in safe harbor until conditions improve. Avalon Harbor should NOT be considered safe harbor during this event.
