6:27 PM EDT Sunday 28 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Moosonee A heat event continues into Tuesday. Maximum daytime temperatures of 29 to 33 degrees Celsius are expected, with humidex values in the mid to high 30s. Overnight minimum temperatures will be 17 to 20 degrees Celsius. At this time, a slightly cooler and less humid airmass is expected to arrive Tuesday night. Although overnight lows may be cooler, hot daytime highs are expected through this week. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. Watches 1:47 PM EDT Sunday 28 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Moosonee Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Torrential downpours with 50 mm falling within an hour. Strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Nickel to ping-pong sized hail. Risk of a tornado. Timing: Today through this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms moving through the area may be severe. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
