| Detailed Description | 3:52 PM EDT Monday 15 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Plevna - Sharbot Lake - Western Lanark County At 3:51 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Avoid driving through water on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 2:58 PM EDT Monday 15 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Plevna - Sharbot Lake - Western Lanark County Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 100 km/h. Toonie sized hail. Local rainfall amounts up to 100 mm. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms are slowly tracking east over central and eastern Ontario. The primary threat is heavy rain approaching 100 mm within nearly stationary lines of thunderstorms. Wind gusts of 100 km/h and toonie sized hail is also possible. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
