Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 6:23 PM ADT Thursday 15 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Inverness County - Mabou and north Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 25 to 35 mm per hour. Locations: Cape Breton Island, and eastern mainland Nova Scotia. Time span: continuing until later this evening. Remarks: Scattered thunderstorms have developed this afternoon and will persist into this evening. Some of these storms may be very slow moving, leading to higher rainfall rates. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
