| Detailed Description | 8:41 PM EDT Tuesday 17 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Sioux Lookout - Eastern Lac Seul At 7:40 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from 65 kilometres north of Lac Seul to 45 kilometres northeast of Lac Seul to 20 kilometres north of Pelican Lake, moving northeast at 50 km/h. Hazards: 90 km/h wind gusts. Heavy rainfall of 20 to 40 mm. Locations impacted include: Otatakan Lake, Dunbar Lake, Garbo Lake, Adamhay Lake and Highstone Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Nickel size hail. Risk of a tornado. Timing: This evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms along a warm front are tracking through portions of northwestern Ontario. The severe thunderstorm threat will diminish later in the evening. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
