| Detailed Description | 8:59 AM EDT Tuesday 18 June 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Gull Bay - Black Sturgeon Lake Heavy rain is expected. Hazards: Total rainfall amounts of 75 to 125 mm with locally higher amounts possible. Timing: Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected with the first occurring this morning and the second occurring this afternoon through this evening. Discussion: A warm and moist airmass will bring significant rainfall today. Areas that receive multiple thunderstorms or prolonged rainfall from thunderstorms may have the potential to exceed 125 mm. For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry office. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest details. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Don''t approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Watches 12:53 PM EDT Tuesday 18 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Armstrong - Auden - Wabakimi Park Gull Bay - Black Sturgeon Lake Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 100 km/h. Torrential downpours. Risk of tornado. Nickel to ping pong ball sized hail. Timing: Late this afternoon into this evening. Discussion: A line of thunderstorms is expected to develop late this afternoon or early this evening. The main threats will be strong wind gusts as well as torrential downpours. For details on rainfall, please see the rainfall warning or special weather statement that is currently in effect. The environment also supports a tornado risk. While the probability of nickel to ping pong ball sized hail is low, it remains possible. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
