6:06 PM EDT Tuesday 17 September 2024 Tornado Warning in effect for: Ear Falls - Perrault Falls - Western Lac Seul At 5:05 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located 9 kilometres southeast of Aerobus Lake, moving northeast at 45 km/h. Hazard: Tornado and 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Perrault Falls and Scout Lake. Another severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located 5 kilometres east of Nelson Lake, moving northeast at 50 km/h. Hazard: Tornado and 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: St. Clair Lake. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately. Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Hazard: Local rainfall amounts of 50 to 80 mm. Discussion: Heavy rain in slow moving thunderstorms is expected today across portions of the region. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Watches 4:55 PM EDT Tuesday 17 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Ear Falls - Perrault Falls - Western Lac Seul Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Nickel size hail. Risk of a tornado. Timing: Late this afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms along a warm front will track through portions of northwestern Ontario today. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
