| Detailed Description | 3:47 PM EDT Saturday 27 April 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Greater Sudbury and vicinity Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Large hail up to 3 cm in diameter or up to toonie size. Locally heavy rainfall up to 50 mm within an hour. Timing: Late this afternoon into early tonight. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Discussion: A brief break in rain is likely this afternoon before another round of showers or thunderstorms are expected this evening. Locally higher amounts are likely in thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
