2:02 PM CST Wednesday 21 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: R.M. of Lake of The Rivers including Assiniboia Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon over southern Saskatchewan and continue through this evening. There is the threat that some of these thunderstorms will be severe. Primary threats will be very large hail and strong winds and there is also the possibility of a tornado or two. Watches will be extended eastward as the day develops. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
