Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 3:12 PM ADT Thursday 15 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Inverness County - Mabou and north At 3:12 PM ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing heavy rain. Maximum rainfall rates: 25 to 35 mm per hour. Locations: Cape Breton Island. Time span: continuing until this evening. Remarks: Radar indicates intense downpours are associated with a cluster of showers and thunderstorms moving through the region. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Potential rainfall rates: 25 to 30 mm per hour. Locations: Cape Breton Island, Antigonish County, and Guysborough County. Time span: early this afternoon until this evening. Remarks: Scattered thunderstorms have developed early this afternoon and will persist into this evening. Some of these storms may be slow moving, leading to higher rainfall rates. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
