Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 4:17 PM ADT Thursday 23 May 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Grand Falls and Victoria County At 4:17 PM ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain. This severe thunderstorm is located near Caribou, Maine and is moving east at 45 km/h. Communities in the path include: North Tilley, Aroostook and Perth-Andover. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are possible today. Heavy downpours can cause water ponding and pooling on roads. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. If you hear thunder, then lightning is close enough to be dangerous. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
