7:05 AM EDT Tuesday 18 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Fort Frances - Emo - Rainy River Seine River Village - Mine Centre At 6:05 AM CDT (6:05 a.m. EST), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres northwest of Otukamamoan Lake to Windy Point, moving northeast at 60 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Windy Point, Cuttle Lake and Otukamamoan Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Hazards: 50 to 80 mm of rain. Locally higher amounts possible. Timing: This morning through tonight. Discussion: A warm and moist airmass will likely bring significant rainfall today. Two rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected with the first occurring early this morning and the second occurring this afternoon through this evening. Areas that receive multiple thunderstorms or prolonged rainfall from slow moving thunderstorms may have the potential to exceed 80 mm locally.
