Brief Description Flood Advisory
Detailed Description * WHAT. Excessive rainfall is expected to cause nuisance flooding of low-lying, flood-prone areas adjacent to Beaverdam Creek. * WHERE. A portion Elbert County, Georgia * WHEN. Until 500 PM EST Thursday. * IMPACTS. Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 454 AM EST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated light to moderate rain continues across Elbert County, but rain should depart the county over the next 60-90 minutes. Over the past 24 hours, approximately 2.5-3 inches of rain has fallen. Approximately 1.25 inches of that rainfall has occurred since midnight. This steady rainfall will likely cause Beaverdam Creek to rise 1-3 feet above its bankfull (Action/Advisory Stage) level, resulting in nuisance flooding of adjacent low-lying areas. Expect Beaverdam Creek to stay above bankfull for much of the day today before falling back below critical levels later today. - The following streamgauge is expected to exceed Action/Advisory Stage, resulting in nuisance flooding along Beaverdam Creek. ID: BVDG1 NAME: at Brewers Mill Rd above Elberton CURRENT STAGE: 6.22 feet ACTION/ADVISORY STAGE: 7.0 feet MINOR FLOOD STAGE: 10.0 feet TREND: Rising Steadily ESTIMATED FORECAST: Beaverdam Creek is expected to crest between 8 and 9 feet later this morning. A reasonable worst- case crest near 10 feet is possible, before a recession back below Action/Advisory Stage later today. IMPACTS: At 8.5 feet, Action/Advisory flooding continues. Beaverdam Creek is inundating adjacent low-lying areas including farmland and boat access ramps. Floodwaters are impacting property adjacent to the vacant Red Minnow Restaurant on Brewers Bridge Rd, and are beginning to inundate portions of Horse Farm Rd, requiring closure. At 9.5 feet, Action/Advisory Stage continues. Beaverdam Creek is flooding Horse Farm Rd with inundation of up to 12 inches likely. Floodwaters are approaching Brickyard Rd and Winns Mill Rd. with inundation imminent. - Some locations that may experience nuisance flooding include.
