8:31 PM EDT Thursday 13 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Shelburne - Mansfield - Northern Dufferin County Orangeville - Grand Valley - Southern Dufferin County Innisfil - New Tecumseth - Angus At 8:30 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 15 kilometres north of Silent Lake Provincial Park to Cannington to Marsville, moving east at 75 km/h. Hazards: 110 km/h wind gusts Up to quarter size hail Risk of a tornado Locations impacted include: Newmarket, Lindsay, Caledon, Bradford, Aurora, Beaverton, Fenelon Falls, Apsley, Lefroy, Killarney Beach, Bell Ewart, Ballydown Beach, Shore Acres, Bayview Beach, De Grassi Point, Eversley, River Drive Park, Holland Landing, Orchard Beach and Keswick Beach. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Hazards: Risk of tornadoes Strong winds gusting to 110 km/h Nickel to toonie size hail Timing: This evening. Discussion: Severe thunderstorms will continue to track through the region this evening. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
