| Detailed Description | 12:18 PM EDT Wednesday 10 July 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Simcoe - Delhi - Norfolk Rainfall with embedded torrential downpours expected. Hazards: Rainfall totals of 40 to 60 mm, with locally higher amounts possible. Torrential downpours giving rainfall rates of 20 to 40 mm per hour at times. Timing: Through Thursday morning. The heaviest rain will occur today into this evening. Discussion: Periods of heavy rainfall associated with the remnants of Hurricane Beryl continue. These types of weather systems can give very high rainfall rates in torrential downpours. Rainfall amounts will likely be highly variable across the region, and some areas may receive in excess of 60 mm. Rain will taper to scattered showers from west to east tonight through early Thursday morning. For information concerning flooding, please consult your local Conservation Authority or Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry office. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for the latest details. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watches 10:51 AM EDT Wednesday 10 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Simcoe - Delhi - Norfolk Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Hazards: Strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Heavy downpours. Risk of a tornado. Timing: This afternoon and evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and will continue into the evening. There is the potential for these thunderstorms to become severe during this time frame, with strong wind gusts as the primary threat. There is a slight risk of a tornado, but confidence is low for development. Torrential downpours are also possible. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
