| Detailed Description | 9:50 AM ADT Thursday 18 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Kings County P.E.I. At 9:49 AM ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Maximum rainfall rates: 20 to 30 mm per hour in thunderstorms. Locations: in the path include: Flat River, Wood Islands, Murray River, Montague. Time span: ending later this morning. Remarks: A severe thunderstorm producing torrential downpours located over Flat River and is moving east at 40 km/h. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Rainfall rates: 15 to 25 mm/h, except possibly higher in thunderstorms. Locations: Queens and Kings counties. Time span: this morning. Remarks: Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms have formed over northern Nova Scotia and are tracking towards the eastern half of the island. Localized torrential rainfall may occur with some of the thunderstorms. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
