| Detailed Description | 2:45 PM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Kirkland Lake - Englehart At 2:45 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Statements 6:55 AM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Kirkland Lake - Englehart Periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to bring the potential for significant rainfall today. Hazards: Local total rainfall amounts up to 60 mm possible. Rainfall rates of 30 to 50 mm per hour possible. Timing: This morning into this afternoon. Discussion: Multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to spread across the region on today. Rainfall warnings may be required and issued with short notice to reflect the rapidly changing conditions. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
