1:04 PM EDT Friday 6 September 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Chandler area Rain at times heavy and wind on Saturday with a risk of storm surge. Time span: from noon Saturday to Saturday evening. Location: the eastern Gaspé peninsula. Threats : between 30 and 50 millimetres of rain will affect the area in a short period of time with strong easterly winds. At the time of high tide late Saturday, these winds could produce breaking sea conditions. Consider modifying any non-essential travel plans. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and ponding on roads. Bridges, culverts and people can be swept away by rapidly rising rivers and streams. Be sure to exercise caution. The combination of large waves and storm surge could result in damage to the shoreline and property along the coast. If you live along the coast, make sure you protect your belongings and remove or secure bulky objects on the ground to prevent them from being thrown or carried away by the waves and posing a danger. Context: a low pressure system with tropical moisture located off the American Eastern Seaboard will cross the Gulf of St. Lawrence late Saturday. However, there is still some uncertainty regarding the intensity of the system as it passes through the region. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
