6:15 PM CST Monday 19 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Buffalo Narrows and Peter Pond Lake At 6:15 PM CST, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain. This line of thunderstorms is located from Descharme Lake to 20 km west of La Loche to near Dillon Lake, 70 km west of Buffalo Narrows, and is heading to the east at 30 km/h. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Some thunderstorms may become severe this evening. Thunderstorms will move toward the east and northeast, and the risk of severe thunderstorms will continue into the night for central and eastern regions. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
