A tropical disturbance, known as Invest 98W from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, continues to slowly develop west of Chuuk near 7.9N 147.8E. This system will slowly continue westward before turning towards the Marianas sometime late Friday into Saturday, gradually strengthening as it does so. Computer model guidance continues to highlight the potential for this developing system to pass through the Marianas. POTENTIAL IMPACTS: - Sustained winds exceeding 30 mph. - Locally heavy rainfall potentially causing flash flooding, especially in areas of poor drainage or in the valleys of hilly terrain. - Hazardous surf and marine conditions. As this disturbance is still poorly organized, uncertainty remains high regarding the timing of its eventual consolidation and turn to the northwest.
