| Detailed Description | An arctic front will continue to move across the Interior today, bringing blustery westerly winds and accumulating snow showers with wind gusts into the 25 to 35 mph range. High pressure will then settle over the region Friday morning through Sunday morning, which will result in morning low temperatures falling across the Interior to well below seasonal normals. This will represent the coldest temps of the season thus far, with lower elevation valley locations dropping into the single digits by Friday morning. Some of the coldest valley locations will likely drop below zero Saturday morning. Residents are advised to make proper cold weather preparations in advance. Attention then turns to a developing winter storm which is currently projected to impact the Interior late Sunday night/early Monday morning and last into the middle of next week. Significant accumulations of snowfall (greater than 6 inches) are likely across a wide swath of the Interior. Mixed rain/snow is also possible during this storm event, especially in the Tanana Valley and near the Alaska Range, so disruptions to travel are likely early next week. There is moderate confidence in gusty winds causing blowing and drifting snow along with reduced visibility as well. Additional rounds of lighter snow are likely Wednesday and Thursday. The Interior should prepare for a much colder weekend, a snowy week next week, and should stay tuned for updates to the forecast. |
