Detailed Description 2:20 PM EDT Saturday 13 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Pickle Lake - Cat Lake At 1:20 PM CDT (2:20 p.m. EDT), Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an area of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 8 kilometres east of Swain Lake to 11 kilometres north of Adamhay Lake, moving northeast at 45 km/h. Hazards: Up to 90 km/h wind gusts. Locally heavy rainfall. Locations impacted include: Margaret Lake, Springpole Lake, Jeanette Lake, Sesikinaga Lake, Gull Lake, Fawcett Lake, Kezik Lake, Slate Falls, North Bamaji Lake, Bamaji Lake, Roadhouse Lake and Blackstone Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Daytime maximum temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius, with humidex values near 36. There will be little relief at night as minimum temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees Celsius are expected. A cooler airmass is expected to arrive on Sunday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Reduce your heat risk. Schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Hazard: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Hail of 2 cm. Large hail can damage property and cause injury.
