| Detailed Description | 3:32 PM MDT Thursday 25 July 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: R.M. of Wood Buffalo near Fort McMurray and Anzac Heavy rain will continue tonight and Friday with total rainfall amounts of 70 to 90 mm expected by Saturday. The heaviest rainfall amounts will be in areas where embedded thunderstorms occur. Heavy rain will taper off by Saturday morning. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Watches 11:08 AM MDT Thursday 25 July 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: R.M. of Wood Buffalo near Fort McMurray and Anzac Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms will develop this afternoon. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe in nature. Thunderstorms will move towards the northeast before weakening this evening. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
