5:18 AM EDT Friday 6 September 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: Percé area Rain at times heavy and winds on Saturday with a risk of storm surge. Time span: from noon Saturday to Saturday evening. Location: the Eastern Gaspésie. Dangers : from 30 to 50 millimetres of rain will affect the area in a short time period with strong easterly winds. At the time of high tide late Saturday, these winds could produce breaking sea conditions. Consider modifying any non-essential travel plans. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and ponding on roads. Bridges, culverts and people can be swept away by rapidly rising rivers and streams. Be sure to exercise caution. The combination of large waves and storm surge could result in damage to the shoreline and property along the coast. If you live along the coast, make sure you protect your belongings and remove or secure bulky objects on the ground to prevent them from being thrown or carried away by the waves and posing a danger. Context: a low-pressure system with tropical moisture off the Carolinas will cross the Gulf of St. Lawrence late Saturday. However, there is still some uncertainty regarding the intensity of the system as it passes through the region. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
