Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 6:29 PM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Sarnia - Petrolia - Western Lambton County At 6:28 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 25 kilometres west of Amherstburg to Point Edward, moving southeast at 80 km/h. Hazard: 110 km/h wind gusts. These wind gusts are ahead of the line of thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms will be near: Chatham around 6:50 P.M. EDT. Strathroy around 7:10 P.M. EDT. Rodney around 7:30 P.M. EDT. Locations impacted include: Windsor, Leamington, Sarnia, Chatham, Amherstburg, Petrolia and Forest. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Stay on the lower floor of your home or building and if the thunderstorm is particularly severe go to the basement. Tents, vehicles, mobile homes and trailers offer little protection. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather in Ontario, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm . For more information: ontario.ca/page/be-prepared-emergency . 12:38 PM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Sarnia - Petrolia - Western Lambton County A heat event continues today. Maximum temperatures are expected to be between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to be between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius. Humidex values will be in the high thirties to low forties. Cooler temperatures are expected by Wednesday. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm . Watches 6:18 PM EDT Tuesday 27 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Sarnia - Petrolia - Western Lambton County Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 100 km/h. Toonie sized hail. Risk of tornadoes. Timing: Early this evening into the overnight hours. Discussion: A line of severe thunderstorms over Lower Michigan will move into Ontario early this evening. Power outages are likely. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm .
