Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 9:09 PM MDT Sunday 18 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Woodlands Co. near Whitecourt and Blue Ridge Conditions are favourable for the development of very dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, destructive hail and torrential rain. Thunderstorms will continue to move eastward through the evening and overnight. Some of these thunderstorms will be severe, especially near and north of the Yellowhead. Watches may be expanded eastward as needed. Extremely large hail can smash windows, destroy property and vehicles and cause life-threatening injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
