Detailed Description 3:31 AM EDT Wednesday 28 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Windsor - Leamington - Essex County At 3:31 AM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts. This severe thunderstorm is located near Point Pelee National Park, moving southeast at 50 km/h. Hazard: Rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 mm. Locations impacted include: Point Pelee National Park. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Maximum temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius with humidex values near 40. Cooler temperatures are expected to arrive tonight. Extreme heat can affect everyone?s health. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration.
