Brief Description Special Weather Statement
Detailed Description A strong and wet storm moving into Bristol Bay tonight will bring potentially hazardous conditions through Friday. Please use caution while traveling as gusty winds, blowing snow, and rain- on-snow could lead to difficult conditions. Two rounds of strong winds are expected, with gusts 40-50 mph possible. From Thursday morning through Thursday night, east to southeast winds along the storm's front will impact communities from Lake Iliamna to as far west as Koliganek and New Stuyahok. From Thursday afternoon through Friday night, southwest to northwest winds wrapping back around the low will impact communities along the coast, from Togiak all the way to Port Heiden. In addition to gusty winds, expect snow and blowing snow late tonight to transition to rain for much of Bristol Bay by Thursday afternoon. While blowing snow is expected, visibilities should remain above one-half mile. Forecast snow amounts range from 3-6 inches and will be affected by how quickly snow transitions to rain. Cooler air wrapping back around the low could lead to additional light snow early Friday morning.
