Brief Description Flood Advisory
Detailed Description The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Flood Advisory for the Tuckasegee River in North Carolina. Below Everett St, in Bryson City affecting Swain County. .Steady light to moderate rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused tributaries feeding the Tuckasegee River upstream of Bryson City to rise, resulting in increasing flows into the Tuckasegee River. Storm-total rainfall of 2.5-3.5 inches has been observed. As a result, the river is expected to approach Action/Advisory Stage later this morning, crest slightly above Action/Advisory Stage by early this afternoon, then fall back below bankfull levels by this evening. This will result in nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to the river, including near Bear Hunter Campground, Old River Rd, and possibly portions of Bryson City Island Park. * WHAT. Excessive rainfall is expected to cause nuisance flooding of low-lying, flood-prone areas adjacent to the Tuckasegee River. * WHERE. Tuckasegee River below Everett St, in Bryson City. * WHEN. From early this morning to this evening. * IMPACTS. At 8.0 feet, Action/Advisory Stage. The Tuckasegee River is beginning to overflow its banks and will start to flood the lowest elevations of Old River Rd near Pams Way and Scary Branch Rd. The lowest elevations of Bear Hunter Campground and Bryson City Island Park may begin to flood. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 12:15 AM EST Thursday the stage was 6.6 feet and rising steadily. - Forecast. The river is expected to rise to a crest near 8.5 feet by this morning and is expected to fall back below Action/Advisory Stage by this evening. - Action/Advisory Stage is 8.0 feet. - Minor Flood Stage is 10.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
