Brief Description High Surf Warning
Detailed Description HIGH SURF WARNING FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI AND NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI. .Surf along exposed north and west facing shores will rapidly build overnight, peak Thursday afternoon through Friday, then slowly ease over the weekend as a significant west-northwest (290 to 315 degrees) swell builds down the island chain. The High Surf Warning has been issued for exposed north and west facing shores of the smaller islands this evening, but will need to be expanded with at least an advisory for the west facing shores of the Big Island early Thursday. * WHAT. Surf of 18 to 25 feet, building to 20 to 30 feet Thursday afternoon along north facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui. Surf of 15 to 20 feet, building to 18 to 22 feet by noon on Thursday along west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai. * WHERE. North and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai, and north facing shores of Maui. * WHEN. From midnight tonight to 6 AM HST Friday. * IMPACTS. Very High. Expect ocean water surging and sweeping across beaches, coastal benches, and lava flows creating the potential for impacts to coastal properties and infrastructure, including roadways. Powerful longshore and rip currents will be present at most beaches. Large breaking waves and strong currents may impact harbor entrances and channels causing challenging boat handling.
