Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 1:04 PM ADT Friday 16 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Pictou County Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing heavy rain. Potential rainfall rates: 20 to 30 mm per hour. Locations: eastern mainland Nova Scotia, and Cape Breton. Time span: this afternoon until this evening. Remarks: Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon. These storms may be slow moving and produce heavy downpours over short distances. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
