SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH |
Detailed Description |
1:38 PM EDT Wednesday 19 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Gogama - Foleyet At 1:37 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 20 kilometres northeast of Shawmere to 8 kilometres north of Jerome, moving northeast at 80 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Gogama, Foleyet, Dana-Jowsey Lakes Provincial Park, Singelake, Horwood Lake, Palomar, Joburke, Groundhog Lake, Rush Lake, Rice Lake, Tionaga, Bromley Lake, Stackpool, Harriet Lake and Beaver Lake. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm . For more information: ontario.ca/page/be-prepared-emergency . 10:49 AM EDT Wednesday 19 June 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Chapleau - Gogama Elevated heat and humidity continue through today. Daytime highs through today are expected to be 28 to 33 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 36 to 42. There will be little relief through the overnight as lows are expected to be 17 to 20 degrees Celsius with humidex values of 25 to 30. Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category. Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Call 911 or your local emergency number immediately if you or someone you are caring for has a high body temperature and is confused, has stopped sweating or becomes unconscious. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Watch for early signs of heat illness (feeling unwell, fatigue, thirst, headache) as these can rapidly evolve into life-threatening emergencies. Move to a cooler environment immediately, such as a shaded or air-conditioned space. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm .
