7:53 PM EDT Thursday 19 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Dryden - Vermilion Bay At 6:53 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain. This line of severe thunderstorms is located from 10 kilometres northeast of Aaron Provincial Park to 8 kilometres south of Lower Manitou Lake, moving northeast at 70 km/h. Hazards: Toonie size hail 90 km/h wind gusts Locations impacted include: Upper Manitou Lake, Gold Rock, Minnehaha Lake, Olsen Lake, Larson Lake, Paulson Lake, Turtlepond Lake, Wabigoon, Rock Lake, Dinorwic Lake, Dinorwic, Big Sandy Lake, Long Lake, Stormy Lake, Dyment, Minnitaki Lake and Basket Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Hazards: A tornado is possible Wind gusts up to 90 km/h Up to toonie sized hail Timing: This evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms moving through the area may be severe. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
