| Detailed Description | 1:34 PM EDT Tuesday 17 September 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Kenora - Grassy Narrows - Whitedog Rain, at times heavy, is expected. Hazard: Local rainfall amounts of 50 to 80 mm. Discussion: Heavy rain in slow moving thunderstorms is expected today across portions of the region. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm . Watches 3:26 PM EDT Tuesday 17 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: Kenora - Grassy Narrows - Whitedog Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 90 km/h. Nickel size hail. Risk of a tornado. Timing: Late this afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms along a warm front will track through portions of northwestern Ontario today. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
