We continue to monitor the possibility of a significant snow event for portions of northern Panhandle beginning Monday night into Tuesday. Cold air is still expected to move into the region during this weekend with increasing north winds across the panhandle. Early next week there is high confidence on a low moving into the Gulf of Alaska, spreading moisture and advecting warmer air over the colder airmass. The main concern regarding this event will be how far east the low is as it moves into the Gulf. A track further north and east will allow moisture and warmer air to expand farther north, limiting snow amounts. Meanwhile, a track further south and west will limit how far north the moisture and warming spreads. The biggest challenge is, when do winds switch from north and east to south and west. This switch would mix warmer air down to the surface allowing for a switch from snow to rain as well as limiting snow accumulations.
