| Detailed Description | RED FLAG WARNINGS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM MONDAY FOR THE INTERSTATE 5 CORRIDOR, AND WESTERN ANTELOPE VALLEY FOOTHILLS DUE TO GUSTY SOUTHWEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS, LOW HUMIDITY, AND VERY HOT TEMPERATURES LEADING TO LARGE VERTICAL PLUME GROWTH POTENTIAL. An extremely long-duration heat wave will continue to bring very hot and dry conditions with elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions to southwest California well into this week. Onshore flow will strengthen considerably today into tonight, causing stronger and more widespread onshore winds across the interior, with gusts between 25 and 40 mph common, except isolated gusts to 45 mph in the western Antelope Valley foothills this afternoon and evening. These strengthening onshore winds combined with the lingering hot and dry air mass will make fire weather conditions more dangerous today across the interior where widespread elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions exist. The longest duration of gusty winds overlapping with low humidities and hot temperatures will be the Interstate 5 corridor and western Antelope Valley foothills, where a Red Flag Warning remains in effect through tonight. In addition, the hot and unstable conditions will make conditions favorable for large vertical plume growth with any new fires across the interior. * WINDS. Southwest to northwest winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph, increasing to 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph this afternoon through tonight. Isolated gusts to 45 mph in the Antelope Valley foothills. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY. Minimum relative humidity 8 to 15 percent with poor overnight recovery less than 30 percent. * TEMPERATURES. Maximum temperatures of 98 to 105 degrees across the I-5 corridor, and 105 to 110 degrees Antelope Valley foothills. * IMPACTS. If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior which could threaten life and property. The hot temperatures will bring the potential for large vertical plume growth. |
