6:13 PM EDT Thursday 19 September 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Seine River Village - Mine Centre A line of severe thunderstorms is located from 8 kilometres northwest of Barrel Lake to Atikokan, moving northeast at 55 km/h. Hazard: Toonie size hail and 90 km/h wind gusts. Locations impacted include: Ignace, Sandbar Lake Provincial Park, East English River Provincial Park, Sanford Lake, Indian Lake, Steep Rock Lake, Finlayson Lake, Paguchi Lake, Barrel Lake, Marmion Lake, Cecil Lake, Norway Lake and Sweden Lake. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Hazards: A tornado is possible Wind gusts up to 90 km/h Up to toonie sized hail Timing: Early this afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Thunderstorms are expected to develop along or ahead of a cold front moving eastwards across the area. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.
