| Detailed Description | 4:00 PM EDT Wednesday 31 July 2024 Heat Warning in effect for: Soulanges area Humidex values of 40 are expected for Thursday and Friday. A warm and humid air mass is currently affecting the province of Quebec and will persist through Saturday. Despite a brief respite today due to showers, the heat will return on Thursday and Friday with humidex values reaching 40. The nights will remain warm with lows of 20 degrees Celsius or more. The feeling of discomfort will be particularly acute in urban areas, where temperatures could reach a few degrees higher. The health risks are greater for older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, people with physical and/or mental illnesses, and people with disabilities or mobility issues. Drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty to decrease your risk of dehydration. Thirst is not a good indicator of dehydration. Check several times a day on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water. Never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
