Brief Description	Special Weather Statement
Detailed Description	Tropical Depression Kong-rey (23W) is located west-northwest of Rota near 15N144E and is moving northwest, away from the Marianas. However, radar and satellite data show the heaviest weather is displaced to the north and east of the center, mainly near and north of Tinian and Saipan, with some showers moving into the far northern islands such as Alamagan and Pagan. Strongest winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts to 60 mph remain in the monsoonal flow wrapping along the eastern and northern edge of TD Kong-rey, and are mainly contained in a band of showers and heavy cloud cover that extends from Tinian up to just north of Anatahan and slopes southeast, east of the Marianas coastal waters, and towards Chuuk, into the overall monsoonal pattern associated with 98W. At Guam and Rota weather as been calmer but rain bands trailing east of TD Kong-rey are moving in this evening and tonight, potentially bringing periods of locally heavy rainfall and gust to 30 mph in these showers. IMPACTS THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT: -For Tinian and Saipan winds will be around 25 to 35 mph. Gust to 60 mph are expected to decrease to 45 mph after midnight tonight as the strongest gusts move northwest and way from the Marianas with TD Kong- rey. For Guam and Rota winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected over night but showers will bring gusts up to 30 mph. -Greatest potential for heavy rain tonight remain around and north of Tinian and Saipan, extending up to Pagan. Developing rain bands east of Kong-rey will bring periods of locally heavy showers to Guam and Rota over night. -Winds at Tinian and Saipan are expected to become breezy Saturday morning, dropping to 15 to 25 mph, while 15 to 20 mph are expected for Guam and Rota. Winds across all the Marianas are expected to become 15 to 20 mph Saturday night as the monsoonal pattern start to weaken as TD Kong-rey continues to move away. Scattered to at times numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue through at least Sunday night as the Marianas remains on the edge of the monsoonal pattern and 98W as they are pulled northwest by TD Kong- rey. -Hazardous surf and marine conditions will start to ease, but surf and sea conditions may remain choppy due to swell from TD Kong-rey and the monsoonal pattern in western Micronesia.
