2:57 PM CDT Friday 13 September 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Chesterfield Inlet Rain, heavy at times is expected. A low pressure system approaching from northern Manitoba will push an area of rain towards Kivalliq communities tonight. Rain will spread northwards and intensify Saturday morning, notably in the Rankin and Chesterfield Inlet regions. The rain will persist Saturday night before abating Sunday morning. Total amounts in warned regions of 25 to 35 mm are expected by Sunday morning with higher amounts where thunderstorms occur concurrently with the rain. Of note, easterly winds will increase Saturday morning, gusting from 60 to 80 km/h by Saturday afternoon. Winds will diminish Saturday night as the centre of the low approaches the region. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe.
