Brief Description WIND WARNING
Detailed Description 1:25 AM CDT Monday 26 August 2024 Wind Warning in effect for: Coral Harbour Strong northerly winds with gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible Monday. A low pressure system moving into Hudson Bay will begin to intensify overnight tonight, resulting in strong northerly winds along the Kivalliq coastline. Winds will gradually increase Monday morning, before peaking in the early afternoon. Sustained winds of 70 km/h with gusts of 90-100 km/h are likely to occur by Monday afternoon. Winds will gradually taper off in the evening before diminishing overnight. Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Gusty winds can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings at outdoor events. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to NUstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #NUStorm . 2:40 PM CDT Sunday 25 August 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Coral Harbour Rain, heavy at times is expected. 20-30 mm of rain possible Sunday night through Monday. A strengthening low pressure system moving from the Kivalliq mainland into Hudson Bay will spread heavy rain into Coral Harbour on Sunday night. The rain will continue through Monday before easing on Monday night. Accumulations in Coral Harbour are likely to reach 20-30 mm, but amounts approaching 30 to 40 mm will be possible near the higher terrain of Southampton Island. In addition to rain, this low pressure system will bring strong northerly winds to the region beginning Monday afternoon that last into midday Tuesday.
