Brief Description Flood Advisory
Detailed Description * WHAT. Nuisance flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE. Henderson County, North Carolina * WHEN. Until 700 PM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS. Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A small culvert washout or two is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 658 AM EST, Over the past several hours, repeated rounds of light to moderate rainfall have impacted Henderson County, especially along the Mud Creek watershed. This rainfall has already produced 0.5-1.5" of rainfall across Henderson County. A potent round of heavy rainfall is currently approaching Henderson County from the southwest, associated with a line of strong to severe thunderstorms. This line will quickly move through the Advisory area over the next 60-90 minutes, but will be capable of producing another 1-2" of rainfall as it does so. This burst of heavy rainfall on top of saturated soils will likely produce excessive runoff capable of nuisance to Minor flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to stream, especially along Mud Creek, Bat Fork Creek, and the small streams in Hendersonville, including Wash Creek, Perry Creek, and Brittain Creek. The following streamgauge is above Action/Advisory Stage, resulting in nuisance flooding along Mud Creek. ID: MNMN7 NAME: at N Main St, 1 mi N of Hendersonville CURRENT STAGE: 10.27 feet ACTION/ADVISORY STAGE: 11.5 feet MINOR FLOOD STAGE: 14 feet MODERATE FLOOD STAGE: 17 feet TREND: Rising Steadily ESTIMATED FORECAST: Mud Creek is likely to exceed Action/Advisory Stage before 9am and continue rising to near Minor Flood Stage. Mud Creek may exceed Minor Flood Stage later this morning or early this afternoon with a crest between 14 and 15 feet possible. Mud Creek may remain above bankfull well into this evening. Therefore, the Flood Advisory will remain in place through 7pm. IMPACTS: At 11.5 feet, Action/Advisory Stage. Common, nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to Mud Creek is beginning. The lowest elevations of William H King Memorial Park are beginning to flood and floodwaters are approaching the lowest elevations of the Oklawaha Greenway. At this stage, more expansive lowland flooding with nuisance impacts to adjacent farmland, golf courses, and nurseries is ongoing or has recently occurred upstream closer to Erkwood Dr. If storm-total rainfall amounts exceed 3-4 inches over the next 1-3 hours, more significant flooding may develop and a Flash Flood Warning may be issued. Caution is advised near any stream or other vulnerable area. Seek higher ground immediately if streams start to rise. Please have a plan in place should flash flooding develop and do not hesitate to act. - Some locations that may experience nuisance to Minor flooding include. Hendersonville, Mills River, Fletcher, Flat Rock, Etowah, Mountain Home, Laurel Park, Saluda, Dupont State Forest, Bat Cave, Valley Hill, East Flat Rock, Horse Shoe and Dana. - Http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
