Brief Description SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
Detailed Description 9:39 PM CST Saturday 24 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect for: R.M. of Estevan including Estevan and Hitchcock Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain. Evening thunderstorm activity has subsided but more severe thunderstorms are developing in central Montana and will reach southeastern Saskatchewan later overnight. The main threats from these thunderstorms will be: - Hail to the size of golf balls - Wind gusts to 110 km/h - Rainfall in excess of 50 mm/h Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
