| Detailed Description | 6:58 PM CDT Sunday 18 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: R.M. of Wallace-Woodworth incl. Virden Elkhorn and Kenton At 6:58 PM CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This severe thunderstorm is located near Hargrave, moving south at 50 km/h. Hazard: Toonie size hail and 110 km/h wind gusts. A tornado is also possible. Locations impacted include: Elkhorn, Hargrave and Woodnorth. This thunderstorm has a history of producing twoonie size hail. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Watches 5:43 PM CDT Sunday 18 August 2024 Tornado Watch in effect for: R.M. of Wallace-Woodworth incl. Virden Elkhorn and Kenton Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. These severe thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and track southeast into Manitoba later in the evening. When it is safe to do so, to report severe weather use #skstorm. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. In the event of a tornado, or if a tornado warning is issued for your area, it is recommended you take the following actions: Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Tornado watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.
