| Detailed Description | 6:29 PM EDT Tuesday 25 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Timmins - Cochrane - Iroquois Falls At 6:28 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail. This severe thunderstorm is located 11 kilometres south of Moose Lake, moving east at 80 km/h. Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts and nickel size hail. Locations impacted include: Matheson, Esker Lakes Provincial Park, Holtyre, Bourkes, Verna Lake and Boundary Bay. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Hazards: Wind gusts up to 100 km/h. Nickel to ping pong ball size hail. Risk of a tornado. Timing: This afternoon into this evening. Discussion: Very strong wind gusts and large hail are the most likely hazards. Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
