1:46 PM ADT Tuesday 13 August 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Victoria County At 1:45 PM ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. Radar indicates that some places in Victoria County may receive 50 to 75 mm of rain in thunderstorms over a short time frame. Additional rainfall amounts are possible. Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Scattered thunderstorms will continue into the afternoon for much of Cape Breton. Some areas could see heavy downpours and local flooding. In addition hail up to 2 cm and gusty winds are possible.
