5:59 PM EDT Thursday 13 June 2024 Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for: Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park At 5:59 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain. This cluster of severe thunderstorms is located from 11 kilometres southwest of Pointe au Baril Station to 15 kilometres southwest of The Massasauga Provincial Park, moving east at 55 km/h. Hazard: Toonie size hail and Up to 100 km/h wind gusts. Up to Toonie size hail. Local rainfall amounts up to 50 mm possible. Locations impacted include: Parry Sound, Killbear Park, Killbear Provincial Park, The Massasauga Provincial Park, Oastler Lake Provincial Park, McKellar, MacTier, Shawanaga, Nobel, Parry Sound Harbour, Little Blackstone Lake, Lorimer Lake, Stonehouse Lake, Dockmure, Grey Owl Lake, McKenzie Lake, Crane Lake, Hurdville, Manitouwabing Lake and Horseshoe Lake. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors! Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall. Hazards: Strong winds gusts up to 90 km/h Nickel to toonie size hail Risk of a tornado Timing: This afternoon and early this evening. Discussion: Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop and track through the region today. Strong wind gusts and large hail are the main threats. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
