Brief Description Winter Storm Warning
Detailed Description Heavy snowfall with blowing snow is expected. Locations: St. John's and vicinity and Avalon Peninsula Southeast. Total snowfall: 15 to 20 cm. Maximum wind gusts: northerly 70 to 80 except 100 km/h over some coastal areas of the Avalon Peninsula Southeast. Time span: this morning until this evening. Similar storms in the past have caused: - hazardous driving conditions - cancellation of scheduled activities - disruptions to transportation services. Remarks: Heavy snow will combine with strong northerly winds to cause reduced visibility in blowing snow, especially over exposed areas. ### Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
