2:26 PM CDT Saturday 14 September 2024 Rainfall Warning in effect for: Rankin Region including Whale Cove Rain, heavy at times, continues as a low pressure system approaches from northern Manitoba. The rain will begin to abate Sunday morning in Arviat, Rankin and Chesterfield Inlets. Further north, rain in Coral Harbour will begin this evening and continue into early Monday morning, with the majority falling tonight and during the day on Sunday. Total amounts in warned regions of 25 to 35 mm are expected with higher amounts where thunderstorms occur concurrently with the rain. Of note, easterly winds gusting from 60 to 80 km/h in Rankin and Chesterfield Inlets will begin to diminish Saturday night as the centre of the low approaches the region. Similar gusts are expected for Coral Harbour overnight tonight into Sunday morning. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy rainfall in combination with other weather factors, such as hail, wind and lightning will make outdoor activities unsafe. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. Statements 10:19 PM CDT Saturday 14 September 2024 Fog Advisory in effect for: Rankin Region including Whale Cove Heavy fog is expected along the Hudson Bay coast as a low pressure system moves through the area. VIsibility is expected to be near-zero at times. Conditions will begin to improve overnight in Arviat and Sunday morning in Whale Cover and Rankin Inlet as winds switch to blow from the northwest. The fog may persist well into the day Sunday in Chesterfield Inlet. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.
